SuSE/Yast question

a couple of times in the past my staff has updated our SuSE Linux
Enterprise Server 9.0 box using Yast and rendered the machine
unbootable.  This happens when kernel upgrades are part of the
updates.

Can someone please point me to or post here the proper order of things
when running Yast2 to update the box when that update includes kernel
revisions?

I'm guessing that after running the updates but before rebooting the
box we have to run lilo but I want confirmation of that.
