I was working at a hospital at the time and lots of stuff would have 
stopped working if it wasn't addressed.  Given management at the time, 
none of it would have been fixed without the alarmist attitudes and 
press and peer pressure.  I requested a study committee in Feb. '97 to 
look at it.  That was formed in Mar. '99 and lots of folks did nothing 
else the rest of the year.

I was without heat for two days in the middle of January 2000 (-10F at 
night) because of Y2K.

The conversion Irving Oil did from their old system to their new system 
screwed up the balance of degree days so they forgot to come out and 
fill our propane tank.  No ICBM launches, though.
