Stupid ebay/amazon question

In the past the amount of SPAM reaching me used to be
fairly constant but in the past year or so it's changed to
being very bursty in nature; I'll go for weeks or months
getting essentially none followed by periods where several
dozens sneak past ComCast's filters every day.

Since humans are compelled to seek patterns in what they
observe I can see how somebody might conclude that such
bursts were related to some other activity.  However,
given what little I know about Ebay's systems I doubt that
they're rigged in a way that would provide the BadGuys
enough info to target you.  Since Ebay and PayPal are both
common targets of phishing attacks worldwide it seems like
it would only be remarkable if you were NOT getting them...
