Everyone has different needs and tastes.

I have a number of clients who regularly use multiple clients. Outlook
at the office, various PDA/cell phones while away, webmail from any
handy computer, Netscape at home. Several clients use Windows, Mac and
Linux workstations simultaneously (some multiple computers, some VMs). I
do have a few who switch email clients occaisionally, but most do tend
to stay with one set of clients. They like having the same folders
wherever they might be. We also use shared IMAP folders in some sites
for announcements or collaboration.
