If you want users to be able to choose the music they want, check out
slimserver.  It's the server software for the SliMP3/Squeezebox, but
it's open source and has a java emulator if you like.  You can also
attach to it via your favorite player that streams URLs.  It also has
plugins to connect to shoutcast, BBC, and Sirius and XM  'net feeds.

I have the server at home, set up a VPN, and listen to my audio
collection from work.  Very handy.
