Great write-up, thanks, Ted.

Following up on Todd's lament about the lack of anything useful in
Solaris (agreed - I'm a SunFreeware.com refuge from a former life) I
came across Nexenta:

   http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=nexenta

a GNU/Solaris distro based on apt/dpkg and taking code from Debian
and Ubuntu. It has ZFS since last fall.

Has anybody tried it out? It looks promising.

Aside: I saw some interesting ancillary discussion about what happens
to Debian if OpenSolaris goes GPL3 and Linux stays GPL2....
