While I'm local, the servers aren't.  After looking at all of the
options, I found that in my case at least, outsourcing makes more
sense, since my time/energy aren't burnt up doing maintenance, dealing
with hardware and server software, etc.   I have one server I own
outright, and it's always more work and less updated than I'd like,
plus it's slower.  Outsourcing often means free/cheap upgrades to
better hardware as the outsourcing company expands/upgrades
themselves.

I'm looking at doing more locally (MV?), but right now, web design
(and Drupal websites in particular) generate far more revenue than the
tight hosting market (or domain name selling ,etc) do... the margins
are slim to none.  I do it more because singlesourcing it makes more
sense for dealing with my clients.  If I can offer 'domain name &
hosting' as part of the package, including the control it gives me (ie
admin status, etc), the slim margin is worth it.
