I use ClamAV on mail servers and deploy ClamWin to Windows users. The biggest
drawback and/or advantage to ClamWin is that it does not do on-access
scanning, like most of the commercial variants. Scheduling a nightly scan is
relatively painless though and I think the performance benefit from not
having the virus scanner constantly watching all disk activity is probably
worth it.
The only other caveat to ClamWin is the abundance of updates that it requires
manual intervention to update with. It amounts to a quick download and
several clicks on the "Next" button until it's done, but I would prefer if
engine updates could be as automated as database updates. It only notifies
you (with a clickable link) to download new engine revisions.
