I reallly do not understand what the issue is.....

Actually, I don't understand what the issue is, either.

I manually updated my servers at work by writing a textual zoneinfo file
with the proper configuration as described in the manual page for zic. I
checked the contents of /etc/TIMEZONE or /etc/localtime and made sure
that my input file was defining that zone--US/Eastern in most cases. I
also made a link from that zone file to EST5EDT. Finally, after
eyeballing it one more time, I ran zic to compile and install the binary
zoneinfo files from the textual input. It took all of 15 minutes to
patch the servers that needed it for the DST changes. I just have to
make sure that they all get rebooted once before Saturday so that the
server applications that only read zoneinfo on startup will re-read the
files. (That has already been done.)

I really can't understand all the fuss over something that we've had
nearly two years to prepare? Don't those people run a real operating system?

Frankly, the utter shite that people will put up with when it comes to
computing never ceases to amaze me.
