How can anyone say that IP as an issue is outside of Linux?
Linux has always been tied to IP issues, from the GPL to SCO lawsuit
to driver writing, and more.

But I understand your point.  As with any mailing list (and in 20+
years, I've been on hundreds), it'll get offtopic now and then, and
then drift back.  It's a cycle, like global warming.
And like global warming, the hot air comes and goes...
