LinuxMCE install

Well, my first reaction to LinuxMCE is it's a great way to spend a
day in an idiot proof install, only to have nothing happen. :-)
Installed stock Ubuntu, and installed the LinuxMCE installer. This
added an icon to my desktop to install. Ran install.
After reboot, asked me a few questions about video and sound. Answered.
Now, I have a machine that boots up, starts X, and runs the LinuxMCE
startup screen, which goes forth and does 'stuff' without much
feedback as to what, beside's configuring itself. After that, a blank
screen. Nothing.
What's worse, I can't access a console to try to figure out myself
what's going on. It did set up a web server, which prompts me to add
a new user. Doesn't seem to do much, just hangs at Create New User
unfortionatly.
I suspect I chose something wrong, but I can say this much. It
isn't happy. :-D
