  Take II.  Since I did the install in a VMWare box, I believe it went
screwy trying to change resolutions.  I hadn't installed the VMWare
tools onto the Ubuntu box before I tried the auto installer.  Pretty
sure this is the same reason why I couldn't get to a console window.
More to follow after I do an update to Ubuntu again (going to save of
a copy of the VM this time).
