My brother's friend did encounter the same issue with a broadcomm based
WiFi card. Not sure if he resolved that, but as a Linux noob I'm hoping
he gets it easily corrected so I can hear his feedback as a first-time
linux user.

Have you turned on the "Desktop Effects"?

Months ago I tried to get Beryl/Compiz effects working on my Edgy box with
no luck. This is an older desktop machine with an ati rv350 card.
However after a few tweaks to the xorg.conf and following some
instructions they are working just fine under Feisty. I'm impressed with
the eye candy features that linux has to offer, especially since these
days people are making their oooOOOO's and Ahhhh's regarding Vista's look
and feel.

Rest of the features are nice. So far, everything works but I can't tell
if a lot of it is because I'd already done a bunch of things to get them
working under E.E.

I like the inclusion of the Banshee Music Player. It's a music player I
hadn't tried before. Amarok was croaking previously when trying to
enumerate all my music to build it's DB. Songbird was incredibly slow.
Some other players didn't have features I was looking for... like the
ability to rate music, then create dynamic playlist (a.k.a "Smart
Playlist") that will play music with a particular rating. Podcast support
as well was a must-have. Banshee appears to do it all.

My only gripe is that Hibernate is not working out of the box for some
reason. Pushing the button says it will Hibernate my system however it
doesn't. I haven't researched yet why this isn't working.

Other than that, I'm happy with the Feisty install. Upgrade was cake,
effects are slick, and *almost* everything works.
