yeah, what Patrick said.

Using IP addresses and/or DNS names liberally is also helpful for  
when you need to move one of them to different hardware.  I used to  
think being stingy was the correct/conservative approach, but it just  
makes things harder in the end.  ARP works (except when you have to  
kick the 3COM switch).

Also consider matching the distro to the need.  ("Gah - what - you  
can use more than one distro?")  For projects that tend to need the  
latest of everything they get Fedora (and a shorter OS lifetime).   
For boring old stuff, they get CentOS.  For boring old stuff in  
higher ed, RHEL.  For ultimate performance, Gentoo.  For reselling,  
Debian.  For custom spins, Slackware.  Etc.  That's just my matrix -  
other matrices are valid solutions.
