It strikes me that the obligatory protector fussing is truly an
artifact of collecting geeks in a room where they can all fuss over
each other's pocket protectors.  In no other demographic, would this

I think this was either 94 or 95.  I distinctly remember that this is
where those DEC/Red Hat 2.0 CDs were handed out (still got mine:) I
had been futzing with slackware 3.0 at the time, and could't for the
life of me, get X to work.  I popped this CD in and "it just worked"...

I'm fairly certain it was long before 96/97, since by then I was
attempting to get X to work on laptops with the NeoMagic chipset
(Ahhhh, *those* were the days...)
