Just out of curiosity, given that I don't have much VPN experience
(I've always opted to use ssh instead), couldn't you just specify an
interface alias like eth0:foo for the VPN to use, leaving in-tact your
normal network config?
Granted, it's tougher to do that sort of thing in environments like
Windows, but assuming all the world is running a decent UN*X like
environment for the moment... :)
