I'm mainly wondering where the eventual lines will be drawn. It
seems clear to me that we've got a pattern of hardware, software and
service companies consolidating. Big players buying little players,
and equal players merging to become still bigger ones. Red Hat, Sun,
Oracle, Novell, Adobe, maybe Dell. Who's going to end up being
absorbed into who? Will Adobe end up part of Microsoft or part of
somebody else? Will it be Microsoft vs giant-other-company, or a
three- or four-way thing?

For example: I could see Oracle buying Adobe to add more app
software to leverage against Microsoft. I could see Red Hat and
Oracle merging (yah, I know they're pitching sh*t at each other
lately, but money sooths all ills). Or I could see Sun and Dell
merging, and then that combination buying Red Hat or Novell to have
"add a Linux distribution to the portfolio". If that happens, who
does Oracle decide to hate more?

Not that it really matters to me. "When elephants fight, it is the
grass which gets trampled."
