Grub Error 18

  Based on the trouble reports in the above, I'd say it's a limitation
with the "BIOS" provided by Parallels.

  The usual way one works around these limitations is to create a
small /boot partition -- typically around 100 MB in size -- which will
thus be located entirely within the BIOS addressable area of the disk.
 Thus the boot loader, the kernel file, and the initrd file all can be
read by the BIOS.  Whether that will work with Parallels, I have no
idea.
