I'm using *32bit* ubuntu hardy heron (8.4) on my laptop.  Checking this
list against the Synaptic package list.

So I think you'd be OK on the 32bit release except perhaps for your
video drivers.  I do not remember the name/type you required.

Hopefully, the 64 bit package versions are easy to build and will
include the same list.

That was a factor in my switching my laptop from fedora to ubuntu.  I
had managed to foul up my fedora setup presumably when mixing in some
non-free packages.  I was looking for easier management on my laptop.
It think Ubuntu has delivered.  I'm now recommending ubuntu to those
folks I support (after having brow beaten them into running Linux).

I think Fedora has a broader range of available packages and can be a
better choice for servers or niches like audio workstations where there
are specialized repositories that integrate with fedora.
