rsnapshot is yet another script that does it.  (actually, rsync does  
all the heavy lifting - can we get a most-useful-utility-ever award  
going for rsync?)

Has anybody here ever played with the ext3cow filesystem?  It does  
versioning and automatic snapshotting:
