Funny, I think it sucks. =) Well, to be fair, it is arbitrarily better than
RHEL. But they are binary equivalent, you say? Yes, but not having to pay
for updates makes all the difference.
Anyway, Ubuntu Server is almost as lean and mean as Debian, but brings along
all the glory that is the Ubuntu repositories and user community. Of
course, you can run it as bloted as CentOS is you like, as you know, but you
are not forced to do so from a minimal install.
Yes, I am an Ubuntu fanboy, and for that I own a debt to you, Ted. =) One
of your presentations at one of my first LUG meetings, you an Ubuntu 6
laptop displaying you're presentation on the extrenal VGA port. I was
shocked that this could be done with Linux! Oh, those were the days.
On a similar note, Bill McGonigle inspired me to write those converstion
scripts at a different meeting. Thanks for the suggestion to convert to
CentOS, Bill! I never lost a single system for longer than a reboot, which
will happen when you update a 5 year old kernel.
