MV donates the co-lo for the GNHLUG server that provides this
mailing list. They've consistently provided service *for free* that's
as good or better than anything else out there. Highly recommended.

The OP was asking specifically about phone+Internet, which is why I
steered away from the ISP-only realm. If you're willing to separate
the two, definitely give MV a call.

Also: If you're the type of person who gets upset when the fine
print isn't as good as the advertisement on TV made it sound, neither
Comcast nor FairPoint is right for you. You need to pay more for a
real ISP, like MV.

We have that at work. *Lots* of bandwidth for a low price. It's
been fairly reliable. The CPE needs to power-cycled every few months.
I dunno that I'd hang critical infrastructure off it, but for web
browsing ("disposable bandwidth"), it's great. We have multiple
feeds at work, and find our outgoing SMTP reliability is better if we
have go through the non-Comcast feed.

  Anecdotes:

* We had a weird problem with reaching some DNS servers which I was
not able to conclusively blame on either DomainMonger (DNS host) or
Comcast. DomainMonger said they called Comcast, who said everything
was fine. Then it magically started working. I dunno who to believe.

* I called to have reverse DNS (PTR record) added, and the first tech
I spoke to knew what I was talking about, and the second was able to
help me. Took about 8 minutes on the phone, and was working within a
few hours. I nearly fell out of my chair, it went so smoothly.
