I am in Nashua and the problem with fairpoint that you described is
unfortunately typical. If you're one of the lucky ones that can get a
line up and provisioned, services like email, etc are often problematic
for long periods of time. The net is awash with stories of fairpoint's
epic failures. The problems are not likely to improve as the company
goes into bankruptcy.
I do not know if comcast offers better pricing for non profit orgs than
their "business" service but it's worth a call.
Although I have had many problems with comcast service at home recently
and I am not a huge fan of comcast, they generally do a better job than
what you described.
We really only have a few choices.
1) fairpoint
2) a third party re-selling fairpoint
3) comcast
Blame the PUC. They are the only people on the planet that thought the
sale of verizon to fairpoint was a good idea.
