Oh, wow, that's good news.  A few years ago I had a client cancel their 
RHEL support contract over the old firewire stack (the only time we ever 
needed support it was, "sorry, that's unsupported, we won't even try to 
help you").  I have to admit to not having tried it again after that 
experience, so glad to hear there's a new stack that deserves a chance 
at life.

It's too bad Apple acquired the big vendor and subsequently threw the 
technology under the bus to sate Intel.
