I've been running a:

   idVendor 0x04c5 Fujitsu, Ltd
   idProduct 0x1135
   bcdDevice 1.00
   iManufacturer 1 Fujitsu
   iProduct 2 ScanSnap S500M

with the SANE-based tools and find the Linux software to be superior to
what I used to use on the Macintosh. The hardware is great, just don't
ever run paper having address labels with an edge turned up through
them. DAMHINT.

The commandline stuff is there too for when I get around to building my
barcode-based batch-filing system.

I see them on Google Shopping for just under $300 from marginally
disreputable dealers.
