USB Question...

Does it play back as well as record?  If so, do the recordings sound
correct when played directly from the device?

That's not likely to be a problem unless you're playing a high bitrate
mp3 directly over USB from the device, with lots of other traffic on
the bus.

That message is often indicative of a corrupt FS.  Did you specify any
low-level filesystem parameters when you mounted the device, or did
you let it autoguess the format?  I've found that some portable music
players use non-standard vfat options.  You may need to inspect the
partition table, fs, and invoke mount directly with the corresponding
options.  This is what I had to do, for example, with an "Ilo" 2GB MP3
"player" which I got from one of those big blue stores.  Besides being
a pain to mount, the Ilo wouldn't play my homemade MP3s, so I ended up
just returning it.
