Ah!  I was only thinking of conventional spinning-mirror technology but,
yes - now that he mentions it I, too, recall hearing of print engines
having one single linear array of LEDs (not necessarily lasers?)  each of
which is energized appropriately as the corresponding rasterized row on
the print drum gets dragged past it.  Such technology would effectively
yield fixed resolution as determined by the density of the LED layout.
