I've got the on my book list.  Jared Diamond also wrote "Guns, Germs, and
Steel" which was made into a 3 part show on one of the science shows.  He
wrote it to answer his friend (Polynesian, or New Zealander?) who asked why
the did the Europeans dominate so much of the world instead of his people?
