I hate apt-get

I hate apt-get stuff. I don't know what kernel you have. I assume you probably

are not using the libre-fshoppe kernel or something since you are installing
proprietary software.

I want to say go back to a red hat (rpm) based distro. honestly, I completely
broke my gnewsense package management (meaning I can't install anymore packages

period) and I really have no suggestions except reinstall the kernel. (that I
don't want to do right now, because I hope to complete alpha of wograld
(www.wograld.org) before I die or get too demented to work on it. I don't
actually expect apt-get to work right or that you will be able to install the
version of the program you want if you have an older version of a debian based
distro (unlike rpm distros where you could just compile it from source as long
as you don't need a package for the program installed) I actually gave up on
installing the latest battle for wesnoth on this system for similar reasons.
