Yeah, well, midi on linux...fun, fun, fun.

Well there has to be a device available that had the MIDI hardware
interface.

Then you need something to drive it.

I use JACK. But it can be done with ALSA.

Best to install UBUNTU Studio, probably, after you get a MIDI port.

Some sound cards have them. The usb to MIDI dongles are inexpensive.
