Hi --

We are looking for a Linux system manager to be located in our Nashua 
office. The system manager will be handling our growing set of Linux 
servers as well as helping out administering office systems in our two 
main locations. Some travel is required. Additional details below:

System Manager
Summary

The System Manager's role is to ensure the stable operation of the 
in-house computer network and the company's Internet end-user service 
which must be live 24/7. This includes planning, developing, installing, 
configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network 
hardware, software, and communication links. The person will also 
analyze and resolve software and network computer problems in a timely 
and accurate fashion, and work with the appropriate resources to 
maintain 24/7 Internet service. The system manager must be able to work 
with other members of the team to optimally design, establish and manage 
the operational infrastructure.

The System Manager must have an established history of operational 
responsibility for multiple Linux/Unix servers in a high availability, 
high performance environment and be able to support production systems 
on a 24/7 basis. Data center is located in NYC. Some travel will be 
required, to enable increased ability to perform work remotely from Nashua.

Non US-citizens are assumed to have existing and valid working permit 
before applying.

Responsibilities

.    Manage security solutions, including firewall, and anti-virus systems.
.    Manage network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, 
hubs, and UPS.
.    Administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
.    Perform network design and capacity planning.
.    Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and 
standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
.    Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure 
network products and services.
.    Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated 
training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and 
disaster recovery.
.    Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network 
component inventory and related documentation and technical 
specifications information.
.    Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access 
rights.
.    Perform system backups and recovery.
.    Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, 
and repairs.
.    Work with Engineering, QA, and Configuration Management to define 
operational infrastructure as required.
.    Participate in defining and managing escalation procedures.
.    Assist in ongoing design and participate in implementation of end 
to end monitoring and control systems.
.    Drive trending analysis, capacity planning, and costing analysis 
for operational systems
.    Document & control production configurations that impact operations.
.    Identify new tools/technologies that will make technical operations 
more efficient, reliable, and cost effective.
.    Perform server maintenance including software/hardware upgrades, 
performance tuning, problem determination, and repair.
.    Ensure network connectivity and system security is maintained.
.    Assist in setup and configuration of new servers according to 
established systems configuration standards.

Requirements

.    Solid understanding of a the Unix/Linux operating system;  paging 
and swapping, inter-process communications, devices and device drivers, 
filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), and use 
performance analysis to tune systems.
.    Programming/Scripting experience a must. Experience with Perl, 
Bash/Shell scripting, and related languages (awk, sed, etc.) required.
.    Proven track record in delivering high-availability services and in 
providing a methodical approach to upgrading fielded systems
.    Strong knowledge of data center operations and the controls and 
audits that necessary for high-availability environments.
.    Strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills 
(written and orally), strong detail & process orientation.
.    3-5+ years experience in supporting application services, ideally 
in a 24/7 on-call environment.
.    Demonstrated experience in helping to define operational processes, 
including defining and tracking relevant metrics as basis of continually 
improving processes.
.    Proven experience in providing documented evidence of all 
operational procedures and logs to senior management and auditors.
