My company is looking for a Senior Ops Engineer in our Manchester
office. Here is copy/paste of the description:
Meltwater is looking for a senior operations engineer or system
administrator to work with bleeding edge Big Data technologies to
support our industry-leading social and traditional media SaaS
insights products.
The ideal candidate has high attention to detail, natural
problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, and the
ability to change contexts efficiently, effectively and often
immediately. The engineer thrives in a professional team environment
while working independently and is dedicated to constant learning,
improvement and contribution. Fascination and desire to work with
technologies of the future is critical.
The successful Senior SaaS Ops Engineer I is part of the SaaS Ops team
that supports all of Meltwater’s SaaS environments, including
development and staging, with particular focus on 24 x 7 support of
production. The engineer will monitor systems, respond to alerts,
create tickets, communicate with support and development, update
documentation, work on projects including changes, deployments,
optimizations. The engineer will be required to take part in the
on-call rotation including periodic weekend coverage.
As a senior engineer, he/she will mentor and provide guidance to
junior members of the team and work on improving our monitoring,
alerting and CI systems. In cooperation with DevOps engineers assigned
to the various development teams, the senior engineer will develop
strategies to improve application deployment processes and enable the
teams to manage their own development and staging environments.
On the technical side, the engineer will manage large ElasticSearch
and riak clusters, sharded MySQL environments and private clouds using
VMWare and XenServer. Most software is written in java and php;
Meltwater uses puppet for configuration management.
The engineer will be located in our Manchester, NH, office. Some
travel is possible.
Responsibilities
• Monitor Meltwater’s production environments for availability and performance
• Respond to alerts and resolve issues following established process
or guidelines
• Field requests from other teams to build new environments or deploy
software and products
• Help find areas to improve our products, systems, processes; create
or improve documentation
• Complete additional work or projects as assigned by the Operations
manager, team leads or others
Skills/Technologies
• Experience with RedHat/CentOS, MySQL, NoSQL, clustering, sharding,
distributed environments, managed data centers, basic networking,
application monitoring, ticketing systems, documentation repositories
is required
• Experience with Java, Perl, PHP, shell scripting is recommended
• Knowledge of puppet, capistrano, virtualization, docker, automation,
ElasticSearch, riak, message queues, continuous integration/delivery,
version control, code management is helpful
• Self-driven, friendly and helpful attitude
• Good communication and mentoring skills
• Bachelor’s degree in technology or equivalent certifications or
experience supporting production environments
