Hi, all. It looks like I may at some point soonish be able to hire
someone in my department to help me directly. I work for a mid-sized
telecom firm that has both hardware and software offerings, out of
Billerica. All of this is preliminary, but looking to see if I can get
the ball rolling.
Basically, I'm looking for someone who's savvy in Linux, hardware AND
scripting, and looking to get exposure to cloud stuff, specifically
varying flavors of Openstack. I was thinking someone fresh out of
school with a fair bit of (demonstrable) Raspberry Pi exposure might be
feasible, up to a mid-level admin.
Duties (NOT a comprehensive list):
* Racking & stacking new servers
* Crimping cables when needed
* Configuring switches
* Dealing with RMAs, etc.
* Automating stuff where needed via scripting
Needs-to-haves:
* Scripting (Python, Ruby, others)
* Fundamental network know-how (subnets, routing, layer 2 -- IPv6 a
definite plus)
* General Linux admin/user skills
* Aptitude and desire to learn
* Decent documentation skills
Telecom companies are in an exciting space right now, as internal
elastic cloud services are replacing a lot of "appliances" that used to
be the bread and butter of a telecom manufacturer. Trying to support
development programs that angle to re-implement appliances as cloud
services is a definite challenge, but also a huge learning opportunity.
If this sounds like something you, or someone you know, might be
interested in, please have them drop me a resume. Lastly, this position
is not carved in stone, and may vanish, but we're hoping a requisition
materializes no later than January.
Thanks!
-Ken
