moving linux partitions

I've used parted to move/resize partitions
and it's generally worked quite well, though
it sometimes refuses to do things that seem
reasonable to me, like move a partition such that
the new boundaries overlap the old boundaries.
I don't know why but it'll apparently refuse
to move a partition that currently resides on
(say) cylinders 100->200 such that its new
location would have it residing on cylinders
150->250 - why? It'll let me move it such that
it resides on cylinders 200->300 (if there's
nothing already there, of course) but not when
there's any overlap.  That just seems b0rken;
if you're careful to start the copy operation at
the correct end of the data, where's the harm?

Other than gripes like that, I like parted.
