Evolution works quite nicely for a lot of this.  I use it at work, but
use mutt at home.

The only good thing about mutt is if you're going over a ssh link to get
where you're going (since I only read my work mail from my desktop or via
the web, a graphical app is no problem).  Going to a remote machine, or one
that you will access from anywhere almost requires some sort of text-based
app.  Hence why I use mutt for my home account.  But once mutt wants to
show me some HTML mail, things go wrong.  Or at least, not-that-easy.
