Most people agree with you.  I do too, for Java or Perl or C, but it's easy to get used to using whitespace when you use Python.  It's natural.  (And IIRC you can use curlies if you want but you do still have to terminate a block of code with at least a newline.)

No idea what program is causing this, but I agree it's not Perl
(nor was I trying to suggest that it was).  I tried to qualify
what I was referring to by comparing it to Linux -- so, I was
talking about Solaris.

However, I don't know much about it, so it might not be Solaris but
rather just some bug with bash or something.  (It's bash 2.02)
