kernel building question

The bulk of the kernel source is in the drivers directory (80mb
of the 160 mb on an untarred tree - based on 2.4.19).  While the arch
directory is 30mb, I would recommend NOT eliminating the arch dirs.
We did this w/ one kernel tree and it was always a PITA trying
to apply / test patches from linux-kernel.
