Well, when I ran tcpdump on my interfaces I was looking for both
src/dst packets of the host I was on.  So, grep'ing for icmp packets, 
even though connected to a switch, if my echo replies were going out 
a different interface than the one the request was coming in on, I 
should have seen it.
