Sound issues.

I hope this makes the route to the two people who initially responded to
an email I generated to Ben.

I checked my cat /proc/pci and got this response concerning my sound
card.

Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq ES1371 [AudioPCI-9
IRQ 3.
Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=12,Max Lat=128.
I/O at 0xdf00 [0xdf3f].

In response to Ken's email I have run sndconfig and hear no sounds.
sndconfig detects the card but does not seem to want to configure it.

When I fire my install (via floppy boot) and enter KDE I get an error
message that states the sound server can not be started because I am
missing device/dev/dsp. I do have a file under dev/dsp.

I have read that sndconfig should work but at this point I am at a loss
as to how. I am not sure if I need to rebuild the kernel or where to
turn. I posted to some on-line groups and the posts get lost in the
shuffle of other's issues.

PS: I checked out the Northern NH user groups page but it looks as if it
is no longer active? Being in Way Northern NH I guess qualifies as
Greater NH :-)
