I think I've used it in the past but I'd forgotten
about it and steveo's reminder caused me a moment of
consternation when I realized that I might have
reinvented the wheel.  It turns out, however, that
iozone doesn't tweak many of the things that I'm
tweaking, so what I'll probably do is (A) say thanks
for the tip and (B) look into incorporating iozone
into my tests.
