   Which OS/distribution?  If it's a recent Linux it's probably PAM-ized, 
and you'll need to dig into the files in /etc/security/, /etc/pam.d/, or a 
similar place to find the answer.
   I don't happen to have any systems with the rtools installed, but if 
you're really stuck I can try it on a spare machine.
