looking to buy 2 linux workstations

Has anyone actually tried to get support out of these companies when the
boxes have Linux installed? From what I've seen lately, my clients spend
ridiculous amounts of time on the phone with folks in India and generally
have a bear of a time getting their hardware serviced.

FWIW, HP has lists of hardware certified with Red Hat, SuSE, Mandrake,
etc.

I followed one link and had the option to buy an Evo D310 or D315 with
"Mandrake Linux 8.2 Light", or "Premium" for $20 more. Linux is not
preloaded, but the Mandrake CD ships with the box (I assume that the
hard drive is essentially blank). I did a sample configuration of the
Evo D310 with Windows vs. with Linux ("light"), and the price came out
to $579 with Windows vs. $534 with Linux. Note that the comparison was
a little tricky, because by default the Linux box comes with a bigger
hard drive (and is only $5 cheaper than a Windows install).

Go to http://www.hp.com/linux for more.

[ Disclaimer: I work for HP, but have never installed Linux on any
              HP-manufactured systems ]
