  I've seen it before, on occasion.  I've even seen sites that will block
any HTTP request for a "deep link" that is not referred to from their own
home page.

  Yah, me too.  I automatically go for the "printer friendly" link, if one
is available.  It didn't occur to me to check for the Referrer check when I
posted the link.
