Hoss Traders: October 3rd and 4th, 2003: One CD or many?

Ladies and Gentlemen:
I have seen several ideas about burning CDs at Hoss Traders, etc.
On our last time there, we had several types of CDs that we burned, and we
charged a small amount to do it (to buy blank CD's, etc.) People put in their
order, we burned them, they came back and picked them up. Very few (if any)
did not come back, and it kept us from over-producing CD-ROMS. In fact, most
of the time we were behind the curve in producing them, but mostly we met
everyone's needs (and it gave us something to do at the event itself).
However, having multiple distributions was confusing.
I suggest that the object of the booth is two-fold:
o to introduce people to Linux and Open Source
o to help demonstrate Ham software on top of open source operating
systems
Therefore I suggest we have only one distribution, and if possible have
the ham radio software running on top of that.
I would recommend either Knoppix or Morphix. These do have the disadvantage
that they do not run on top of x386 (and maybe even x486) systems, needing
Pentium or above. If we want to be consistent with the "Hoss Traders Style
of Computer", then we need something that at least runs on an x486. If, on
the other hand, we want to stress something reasonable with ease of
"installation", we go with the releases mentioned above.
If people just want us to supply cheap distributions of Red Hat or SuSE, I
suggest they go to the web and pull them down, or buy them from
www.cheapbytes.com or some other low-price house. We can have a piece of paper
that tells them where to go.
Since Ed has the supply of ham radio software, I think he should pick
the distribution to integrate it with.
Knoppix also now has a distribution that allows for a "terminal server" or
a "cluster", which might be interesting to show, using OpenMosix technology.
