Because at the time, I was trying to see if that made a difference.  
It doesn't, and it doesn't set up two default gateways either, I have 
to set the second (.37) subnet up manually.

'know' in what sense?  Each router should have a arp cache entry for 
the interface on the respective subnets, shouldn't they?
