  You would need to open all <large-number-of-files> into your editor.

  Is that desirable?

  If so, Emacs can (of course) do it: Use "dired" mode, mark your files, and
then run the Emacs command "dired-do-query-replace-regexp".

  Emacs certaily fits into that cateogy.

  Then again, Emacs fits into just about every category except "small".
