In February 2003 Diebold claimed an installed base of over
44,000 touch screen voting systems in the US, and that 13
states and 197 countries utilize their voting systems. That
was in a large proposal, don't know if they won it but I'm
sure it's a good bet they've sold a few systems since then.
Replacing them will cost lots of tax payer dollars. Some
folks think that's important too, maybe enough to accept the
flaws in those systems. "Live free or die!" can be read as a
financial statement instead of about authority.
