Ok, now I see it. Perhaps I missed it before because I have Google
configured to list 100 search results per page, and it's a long scroll
to the bottom...

Ok, off to the Thought Contagion presses...

About being outraged, I am annoyed too, but not surprised. Expect this
sort of thing to happen whenever you get a strong centralized point
vulnerable to attack.

In the words of an old "classic" film:

Don't get mad,
Get even.

Search engine technology, along with everything else on the Internet,
needs to be decentralised.

Guess I'll go back to using dogpile.com for my searches. For those of
you who don't know -- dogpile.com is a meta-search engine that returns
the results of many search engines. Back before Google got as good as it
is now, I used to use it all the time to find content that did not show
up on Google or Alta Vista.

On dogpile.com, the first result that comes up for searching "Kazza lite
download" is:

http://www.get-kazaa-lite.com/

In the meantime, some serious thought needs to be given to doing to
search engines what has been done for file-sharing. How to query
thousands if not millions of little search engines all over the globe to
retrieve content, rather than relying on one huge centralised facility
such as Google.

Lets use the technology and our own collective genius to stay ahead of
those that would use superannuated approaches such as the law and
politics to thwart us. The more they push, the faster we'll think and
implement.
