Bruce,

I thought I meant every month, not just the quarterly meetings. Even though
the LUG meets "every month" at Marthas, there are times that the upper room
is booked, and you have to find another one. Sometimes the room is
"inappropriate" for the type or draw of speaker that we might have.

Great, but you still have to keep after people to add new things.

Cron does not automatically fill in the speaker name, nor does it change the
directions to the room when Martha's is booked. It doesn't send out email when
the speaker cancels, nor does it check the weather forecast when blizzards
come.

That is an issue, particularly when the speaker comes from far away, but any
speaker should have a decent audience. Again, not an automatic thing.
Perhaps we need an "RSVP" mechanism, and when people do not RSVP six days
before the event, we cancel it.
While I do not think the job is as arduous as people seem to think it is,
I also don't want people to think that it does not take *some* time. It does.
It does not need the most technically minded, just someone who is organized
and is curious about our favorite operating system and "Open Source". Perhaps
someone a little outgoing, who can take some perceived rejection from
potential speakers who are just too busy, and can go on to the "next one".
> But I won't be able to do it all the time, so don't count on it getting done.
Since I do not come to a lot of the meetings, I hesitate to turn down your
generous offer. But I think that what the group needs is more consistency,
not less.
