I don't have a Verizon line myself but have helped a couple others set 
one up.  The important bit you probably need to know is that you need 
to establish a PPPoE connection.  I haven't done this myself on linux 
other than on a WRT54G.

If I were you I'd put the d-link router behind the DSL modem (on your 
side of it) and configure it to do PPPoE for you and NAT your 
connection and maybe provide DHCP.  Then you can do a standard IP 
configuration on linux.  This also gives you a layer of security that's 
easier to configure than iptables.
